Parents are allowed to stay in the campsite if wanted (hotels near Buckeye Lake Winery 13750 Rosewood Rd NE, Thornville, OH 43076)
Meals (Breakfast Saturday and Sunday / Lunch Saturday and Sunday /Dinner Saturday), Boats, Beach Sprint Course, Tryouts-Selection procedure.
3–4-hour sessions:
Day One: "Set up"
Arrival to Buckeye Lake and set up camp, rig boats and beach orientation
Day Two part I: “The Basics”
Introduction to Coastal:
Vocabulary, parts and pieces, equipment
Safety:
Float Plan: Planning the route and practice
Dynamic Risk Assessment: Nature of the beach, water, wind, forecast, hazards, briefing and safety checklist
Rowing
Basic Launching and managing the boats
Safety rescue drills
Practice coastal rowing following the float plan & Landing
Post-launching: sign-in, wash boats, de-brief
Day Two Part II: “Stations for Beach Sprints”
Introduction to beach maneuvers: 50min stations with 10 minutes transitions
Hands on boats
Station 1: Run-boat Transition: Drills to go from start to the boat, jump in, work with 2 boat handlers. (1 coastal boat in water, 1 boat in sand)
Station 2 and 3: Buoy turns: Wide, narrow turns and effects with wind, waves currents, Capsize drill. (2 coastal boats)
Station 4: Boat-Run Transition: Jump Dismounts and running drills to the finish line (1 coastal Boat)
Day Two Part III: “Beach Sprints Time Trials” **buoy course is set-up before session begins, Beach sprint course pattern**
Introduction to beach Sprints: Phases of beach sprint racing
Regatta Time Trial: using the 32 athletes to create a real scenario (16 females and 16 males) 16 regattas*10’=160 minutes
10’ between duals to find the best 8 females and 8 males times for next day brackets
Everyone is acting a boat handlers under supervision of a coach for corrections and reminders.
Day Three Part I: “Beach Sprints Finals”
Quarter finals, semi finals and final
End at lunch time
